GST Split Calculator
Take any GST amount and split it exactly into CGST and SGST halves.
Enter the total GST you want to divide.
How the calculation works
Given a total GST figure — say from a summary report — this splits it into the two equal halves that an intra-state invoice would show.
- CGST
Half of the GST amount, rounded down to the paise - SGST
Remaining half (absorbs any 1-paise imbalance)
Worked example
Your monthly summary shows ₹8,401 of GST collected on local sales.
You enter
You get
Odd paise split evenly because SGST absorbs the extra half-paise after rounding.
Important points to keep in mind
- Splitting only makes sense for intra-state amounts — IGST never divides.
- If you know the taxable value and rate instead, the CGST+SGST calculator works directly from those.
- Figures feeding GSTR-3B cash/credit ledgers should come from your actual invoices, not just summaries.
Frequently asked questions
Why not just divide by two?
You nearly can. Only when the total ends in an odd paise does strict division create half-paises; the calculator assigns them cleanly so both halves stay valid currency values.
Can I split IGST into CGST and SGST later?
Not on invoices — IGST is charged where the supply is inter-state. For credit utilisation, though, IGST credit can indeed pay CGST or SGST liabilities.
